Research

The scientific activity of the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine of the University of Catania is oriented towards Translational Medicine, a bold, contemporary approach based on the ability to transfer scientific knowledge to biomedicine in order to generate advanced diagnostic and therapeutic applications and offering at the same time new investigative tools.

There's a two-way connection between medicine and clinical research which allows scientists to formulate hypotheses starting from clinical observation. Those observations, like how certain medicines work or which mechanisms lead to certain diseases, can then be verified and possibly demonstrated through pre-clinical experimental models and then returned to the clinic to be used on patients.
