FISICA TECNICA INDUSTRIALE E AMBIENTALE
Module FISICA TECNICA AMBIENTALE

Academic Year 2023/2024 - Teacher: Antonio GAGLIANO

Expected Learning Outcomes

The course provides students with the ability to evaluate the parameters that determine the quality of working environments, and any health risks, in the field of thermal comfort and air quality. Students will learn to measure these parameters, compare them with any optimal or regulatory values, and then establish and implement - together with a technician - the most appropriate mitigation strategies

Course Structure

The contents of the discipline will be discussed through traditional lectures.

Required Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Physics and Mathematics

Attendance of Lessons

Attending the lectures is COMPULSORY, with a minimum attendance rate complying with the requirements set by the University.

Detailed Course Content

1) Thermal comfort in workplaces:

- The energy balance of the human body

- Indicators: PMV and PPD (moderate environments) WBGT and WIND CHILL (severe cold environments)

- Measurement of the environmental parameters (air temperature, relative humidity, air velocity)

- Practical examples of evaluation and case studies

2) Air quality in the workplace:

- Indoor pollutants and their effects on health

- The measurement of the pollutants’ concentration

- Ventilation requirements for the healthiness of the rooms, and related regulatory references

- Case studies: measurement of CO2 and CO concentration in school and work environments
