Expected Learning Outcomes

Acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the main rehabilitation techniques based on various dramatization and theatrical activities, their theoretical origins, and their use in therapeutic settings. Acquisition of the necessary concepts for designing a therapeutic-rehabilitation program based on the techniques covered in the subject, as well as the individual ability to integrate into a multidisciplinary team.
Development of critical thinking and judgment skills related to the topics discussed, as well as communication and interpersonal relationship skills, facilitated by classroom interaction during the lessons. Motivation towards the professional training of the practitioner.

Required Prerequisites

In addition to the usefulness of any personal knowledge (cultural prerequisites) that the student may already possess before beginning this course of study, basic knowledge of Psychiatric Rehabilitation, the symptomatological aspects of major psychiatric disorders, the therapeutic relationship, and the training of the practitioner is important.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance of at least 70% of the scheduled lecture hours is mandatory in order to be eligible to take the final exam for the individual subject.

Detailed Course Content

Overview of rehabilitation in psychiatry (psychic disability, chronicity, and care) and of the main psychiatric disorders that may be the focus of therapeutic-rehabilitative interventions (neuroses, psychoses, personality disorders), along with related issues.
Play, storytelling, and imagery in rehabilitation.
History of Theater, from Classical Theater to modern Dramatherapy. Catharsis, healing, and transformation. The mask and the ritual. Creativity and Art Therapy.
The therapeutic function of theater and theatrical techniques. Creative theater.
The theater workshop. Moreno’s psychodrama, Moreno’s sociodrama, and sociometry. Playback theatre.
Dramatherapy (Remedial Theater, Role Method).
Other theatrical techniques used for therapeutic, social, and educational purposes (Theatre of the Oppressed, Social Theatre, Affective Theatre, etc.).

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

Learning assessment is carried out through oral examinations, with a grade expressed in thirtieths aimed at describing the individual student's level of preparation.
The evaluation considers the relevance of the answers to the questions asked, the quality of the content, the ability to make connections with other topics covered in the program, the ability to provide examples, the use of appropriate technical language, and the student’s overall expressive ability.
