Module ORGANISATION OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Expected Learning Outcomes

Acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the territorial Mental Health Services, the vision and mission of these Services. 
Knowledge of the objectives of "territorial proximity" and proximity to users, especially in terms of the possibility of intercepting and preventing mental distress and the onset of more resistant psychiatric pathologies.
The role of the Rehabilitation Technician in the planning of the Services, especially with a view to an integrated and multidisciplinary intervention and consultation between Services and other territorial agencies with the right (Local Authorities, Judicial Offices, Third Sector).
Knowledge of the main rules that regulate the birth and development of the territorial Mental Health Services.
Development of critical and judgment skills with respect to the topics covered, communication and interpersonal relationships, facilitated by classroom interaction during the lessons.

Course Structure

Lectures supported by slides and videos.
Extensive opportunities for classroom interaction and group discussion on the topics covered.
Given the lack of comprehensive textbooks that cover all the topics in a single volume, attendance at all lessons is strongly recommended.

Required Prerequisites

Useful are the basic notions on Psychiatric Rehabilitation, on the epidemiological aspects and on the social implications of the main psychiatric pathologies, on the care relationship and on the operator's training.

Attendance of Lessons

Attendance of at least 70% of the scheduled lecture hours is mandatory in order to be eligible to take the final exam for the individual subject.

Recovery and Empowerment.
Mission and vision of the Provincial Health Authorities (ASP).
Organization of the ASP.
Simple Operating Units, Complex Operating Units.
Departmental Organization. Management and functional departments.
Health districts.
Department of Mental Health (DSM).
Departmental Mental Health Module (MDSM).
Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment Service (SPDC).
Territorial Rehabilitation Structures (CTA, CA).
"Lightened" residential care.
UOSD Residence Execution of Safety Measures (REMS).

Textbook Information

Teaching material, summary of the contents covered in class (text and slides), organized in a handout by the teacher and made available to students.
For the description of a practical example of the planning of a Mental Health service, inspiration was taken from the Service Charter of a Provincial Health Authority, focusing attention on the part relating to Mental Health.

Learning Assessment

Learning Assessment Procedures

Learning assessment is carried out through oral examinations, with a grade expressed in thirtieths aimed at describing the individual student's level of preparation.
The evaluation considers the relevance of the answers to the questions asked, the quality of the content, the ability to make connections with other topics covered in the program, the ability to provide examples, the use of appropriate technical language, and the student’s overall expressive ability.
