Born in Catania on 1st December 1954, lives in Catania, via Ballo 10.

Graduated in Medicine on 2nd November 1978, at University of Catania, 110/110 with honour.

Speciality in Endocrinology obtained on 2nd July 1981, at University of Catania, 50/50 with honour.

Qualification as Head Physician in Endocrinology in 1991.

University Researcher confirmed from 1987 on for Professorship in Endocrinology (Department of Internal Medicine) at University of Catania.

Responsible Director of “Centre for the Prevention and Cure of Goitre” at Garibaldi-S.Luigi-Currò-Ascoli-Tomaselli Hospital, of National Importance and High Specialization. 

Didactic Activity


Teaching activity for the School of Dietology and Diet-therapy at University of Catania from 1990 to 1997.
Teaching activity for the Endocrinology post-graduate School at University of Catania.
Professor of Endocrinology at Medicine School at University of Catania.
Teaching activity for the Endocrinology for the School of Cardiology at University of Catania. 
From 1999 on, Member of the Teaching Staff of Graduate Study in Endocrinological Science: “Molecular bases of hormonal activity” at University of Catania.

Scientific Activity


His scientific research activity concerns above all the study of thyroid pathology: in particular, he participated at several studies concerning epidemiology and complications of goitre in an endemic area of North-Eastern Sicily, following the evolution of this pathologies in a longitudinal study lasting about 30 years. During these studies, he had a primary role in the original project of inter-national cooperation with Harvard and Bruxelles Universities for iodine-prophylaxis through io-dine supplementation in the municipal water of a North-Eastern Sicilian town (Troina). 
Due to his experience, in 1998 he has obtained the role of Coordinator for South-Eastern Sicily of  a project, financed by C.N.R., concerning the “Eradication of Endemic Goitre and Iodine-deficiency Disorders in Southern Italy”.
From 2013 on, Member of Iodine Deficiency Disorders Commission of SIE (Italian Society of Endocrinology). 
His clinical and scientific activity concerns also the thyroid carcinoma and his complications, particularly in patients receiving radioiodine therapy: in this area he selected one of the most wide group of patients in Europe, and he followed the evolution of this pathology and published several articles about the subject.
His scientific activity is documented by 167 scientific publications on national and international journals, of which 63 works in estenso and 104 brief communications and congress reports.
