The scientific research work of the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine of the University of Catania is oriented towards Translational Medicine, a contemporary approach based on the ability to transfer scientific knowledge to biomedicine thus generating advanced diagnostic and therapeutic applications as well as investigative tools. The link between clinical research and medicine is two-way and allows the formulation of hypotheses even from clinical observation for example on the mechanisms leading to certain diseases or how certain medicines work which can then be verified through pre-clinical experimental models and then returned to the clinic for use with patients.
