Learning Objectives

  • EDUCATION AND NARRATIVE MEDICINE FOR AN ETHICS OF THE PROFESSION

    The course aims to provide the basic knowledge related to the relationship between two disciplines: pedagogy and medicine through an important device that is the narration, in order to refine and reflect on the interpersonal relationship between doctor and professionals of care and health and the patient, but also on autobiography and self-writing as tools of knowledge and care for a more targeted ethics of the profession.


Course Structure

  • EDUCATION AND NARRATIVE MEDICINE FOR AN ETHICS OF THE PROFESSION

    The lessons will be carried out through a frontal methodology but examples, readings to be analyzed and exercises from which to start to address the issues will be proposed. Lessons will be held in person, unless otherwise provided by the University and the Department for Distance Learning.

    There will be an ongoing check on a date agreed with the students who follow the text of the tutoring. The test consists of group work on the topics covered in the text that are presented orally by the groups in different ways: reports, p.p. presentations and conceptual maps.

     

    The final verification is oral.


Detailed Course Content

  • EDUCATION AND NARRATIVE MEDICINE FOR AN ETHICS OF THE PROFESSION

    The course will focus on the following topics:

    - The multiple knowledge and practices of the narrative tradition;

    - The integration of patient histories into clinical practice;

    - How to enrich the objectivity of medical science with individual emotions?

    - Narration as a cognitive and therapeutic device

    - Autobiography as self-care

    - The theoretical and methodological foundations of autobiography

    - Reflection on the self and understanding the present

    - Finding the lost emotions and knowing how we became, who we have to thank or forget.

    -The storytelling at the service of medicine through self-reading and writing - The ability to listen and to pay attention necessary to arrive at more adequate diagnoses and more shared therapies

    -Really taking care of those who suffer, in contrast to a health system that seems to put business and bureaucratic concerns ahead of people's needs.
